ABOUT ME!
. . . . and what I’ve been up to!
Born and bred in Johannesburg, I’ve spent much of my life exploring Southern Africa and developing a deep understanding of its cultures, landscapes and wildlife.
The travel bug bit early.
While still at school, trains were my main form of transport — both locally and into neighbouring Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and Portuguese East Africa (Mozambique).
In the years that followed, I travelled by anything that would get me there: hitch-hiking, bicycle, motorbike, train, plane, bus, car, ferry, intercontinental trucks, mokoro, dhow and even a guard’s van (caboose).
More recently, two Yamaha adventure motorbikes and an old Land Rover Defender 200Tdi carried me through Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Eswatini, Lesotho and every corner of South Africa.
Africa’s cultures — and its wildlife — have always been at the heart of it all.
I am a registered Nature and Culture Tourist Guide and a member of the Institute of Professional Tourist Guides of Southern Africa (IPTGSA).
I have been involved in voluntary work in our National Parks for over 20 years, both hands-on and through fundraising, to support conservation.
I’ve been fortunate to experience areas not normally open to the general public, allowing me to truly understand and connect with these parks.
I have worked in tourism since 2003, initially hosting specialist birding trips into the Kruger National Park.
Since those early days, I’ve guided individuals, families and groups on small private tours throughout South Africa, including Johannesburg–Cape Town road trips featuring Kruger, KZN and the Garden Route; the Kruger National Park; Greater Kruger’s private reserves; Pilanesberg National Park; Johannesburg and probably Soweto’s most genuine tour.
My curated authentic, bespoke tours are the result of places I’ve been to, love, and want to share with others.
These small, private, immersive and well-informed journeys through South Africa combine practical field experience, conservation insight and a lifelong passion for the region.
Alongside my own guiding business, I also operate as a freelance tourist guide and regularly lead trips for several well-known South African tour and safari companies.
I am also licensed to drive open safari vehicles in Big Five territory.
